Topicalização e deslocamento para a esquerda

Abstract


Resumo: Neste trabalho, eu analiso uma série de construções de tópico, procurando verificar se é possível em português distinguir, como faz Ross (1968) para o inglês, dois tipos de construção: deslocamento para a esquerda e topicalização. Apresento primeiro os argumentos sintáticos utilizados para distinguir duas construções em inglês e verifico se eles são válidos para o português. Em seguida, examino as hipóteses que, à luz da teoria do discurso, foram levantadas para distingui-las. Concluo que em português a situação não parece muito clara, embora haja indícios de diferenças funcionais entre as construções estudadas.

Abstract: This paper presents a study of some topic sentences, with the aim of examining, as Ross (1968) did with English examples, the possibility of distinguishing left dislocation from topicalization in Portuguese. Syntactic arguments used to differentiate the two types of construction in English are then discussed, as well as the hypothesis formulated by linguists working with discourse. The conclution is that the situation in Portuguese is not clear, in spite of some indications of the existence of functional differences between the two constructions.
