Abstract: Taking communication as an intercultural process, the purpose of this essay is to show how interdiscourse communication is present in social and professional interactions, highlighting academic detailing as a technique that aims at bringing together the drug market and the medical discourse systems. The scientific basis is found in ethnomethodological discourse analysis, focusing communication among health professionals, viewed as essentially intercultural. The main conclusion is that academic detailing contributes to improve rational use of medications and to enhance efficiency in health systems because it promotes an interaction among different discourse systems, which have different aims and foci. It aims at the best possible results considering the system’s users.
