Abstract

Resumo: Esse trabalho busca fazer uma aproximação entre a posição pré-nominal em português brasileiro e as propriedades apontadas para adjetivos avaliativos em inglês e espanhol, conforme observado principalmente em Fábregas, Leferman e Marín (2013). Apontamos que as propostas em PB de distinguir duas posições adjetivais claramente distintas na anteposição nos levam a perder algumas propriedades que, de maneira mais abstrata, parecem ser compartilhadas por boa parte dos adjetivos antepostos – especialmente uma certa “intermediação” entre o adjetivo e o nome na leitura obtida. A partir da observação de que a leitura avaliativa é uma propriedade comumente apontada para a posição pré-nominal, trazemos a proposta de Fábregas, Leferman e Marín (2013) de que adjetivos avaliativos se distinguem de adjetivos individual-level e stage-level por poderem selecionar um argumento evento e buscamos traçar um paralelo entre essa propriedade e a posição pré-nominal em PB de maneira mais ampla.

Abstract: This paper aims to draw a parallel between the prenominal position in Brazilian Portuguese and properties of Evaluative Adjectives that have been observed for English and Spanish, particularly as Fábregas, Leferman and Marín (2013) noted. We disagree with proposals for Brazilian Portuguese that claim there are two clearly distinct prenominal adjectival positions in Brazilian Portuguese. Such a conception would lead us to set aside some properties that, once more abstractly conceived, seem to be shared by a great portion of prenominal adjectives (namely, that there is some sort of “intermediation” between the adjective and the name in the A+N obtained reading). Departing from the observation that an evaluative reading is a commonly noted property for the prenominal adjectival position, we bring Fábregas, Leferman e Marín’s (2013) proposal, which posits that Evaluative Adjectives are distinct from individual-level and stage-level adjectives for being able to select an Event argument and attempt to establish a connection between this property and the prenominal adjectival position in Brazilian Portuguese in a broader sense.
