O que difere uma língua ergativa de uma língua nominativa?

Abstract


Este artigo tem por objetivo mostrar as propriedades gramaticaisque diferem as línguas ergativas das línguas nominativas. Assumeseque o parâmetro que distingue os dois tipos de línguas estádiretamente conectado com o fato de o Caso ergativo ser somenteatribuído em línguas ergativas, nunca em línguas nominativas.Adicionalmente, discute-se que sistemas cindidos tendem aaparecer somente em línguas morfologicamente ergativas, mas nãoem línguas sintaticamente ergativas. Nesta perspectiva, sistemasde caso tripartidos são mais previsíveis em línguas morfologicamenteergativas. Por sua vez, línguas sintaticamente ergativas tendem aser mais uniformes no sentido de que o Caso nominativo é, emgeral, atribuído a sujeitos de intransitivos e a objetos de transitivos.Esta correlação explica a razão por que há uma tendência de osargumentos que carregam Caso absolutivo em línguas sintaticamenteergativas exibirem certos comportamentos sintáticos que, em geral,estão associados àqueles dos sujeitos em línguas acusativas.
