Sobre “Alguns argumentos contra o inatismo lingüístico” – Réplica a Lombardi Vallauri (2008)

Abstract

Resumo: Este trabalho apresenta uma resposta ao artigo de Lombardi Vallauri (2008), em que o autor apresenta uma série de argumentos que considera devastadores contra a hipótese do inatismo lingüístico. Apesar de defesas ao inatismo terem sido feitas após sua publicação, nenhuma resposta específica a seu artigo foi apresentada. Seus argumentos são de sete tipos, denominados de (i) intuitivos, (ii) evolucionários, (iii) genéticos, (iv) escolásticos, (v) jurídico-esportivos, (vi) lingüísticos e (vii) pragmáticos. Este artigo concentra-se nos argumentos de (i) a (v) e defende que, ao contrário da posição do autor, os dados apresentados não podem ser considerados como evidências contra o inatismo e, mais do que isso, alguns podem ser considerados evidências a favor.

Abstract: In this paper I offer a reply to Lombardi Vallauri’s (2008) paper, published in this journal, where the author presents a series of arguments against the hypothesis of linguistic nativism. The author considers his arguments to be devastating, however no specific reply against his paper was offered. His arguments were of seven kinds: (i) intuitive, (ii) evolutionary, (iii) genetic, (iv) scholastic, (v) legal-sportive, (vi) linguistic and (vii) pragmatic. In this paper, I analyze his argument (i) to (v). Against his position, I argue that the facts presented cannot be considered as evidence against nativism. Moreover, some of them can be seen as evidence for natisvism.
